Re:
COVID-19 LOCKDOWN CRITICAL STAFF MEASURE #7
Please note that His Excellency President Hage Geingob’s announcement on the partial lockdown of
the Khomas and Erongo Regions from Friday 27 March at midnight is not an idle intervention.
It is a consequential response to the clear and present danger posed by the deadly new corona virus
to the Namibian people. The aim is to aggressively implement measures meant to effectively contain
the spread of COVID-19 into our communities as advised by health experts.
In his directive, the president strictly outlined that “all Government employees as well as those in the
State-Owned Enterprises and Private sector are to operate from home, except those providing
critical services”.
Given the gravity of the danger posed by this virus, NUST is implementing this directive strictly to the
letter. Within our system, we have defined as critical to the smooth operation of the University under
lockdown, ONLY functionaries listed below. Even these specified functionaries will only be allowed
into campus when absolutely necessary, and with express permission.
e FIN - staff coming in for a minimum amount of time to complete payroll.
e FHAS - technician coming in to monitor lab equipment.
e DICT - staff coming in as required to carry out server and other essential maintenance so that
critical data are not lost.
e Facilities - performing numerous critical services. For example, to fix a leaking pipe(s) to avoid
wastage or so the campus does not flood.
e Poly Heights residents and Hostel wardens are allowed, but only to access those areas.
All Staff are strongly advised to abide by this advice or to seek clarification from the Marketing and
Communications Department if they are not sure.
Your cooperation on this matter is highly appreciated. Remember to limit your movement, wash your
hands regularly and immediately report any symptoms associated with the virus to 0800 100 100.
Otherwise stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely
1)
Morné du Toit
Acting Vice-Chancellor
